The FSA Board of Directors met virtually this year, ahead of ANESTHESIOLOGY 2026, due to the shortened ASA meeting schedule.
The Board reviewed year-to-date highlights, including the launch of FSA's new website. Members can now access FSA news, events and member resources at fsahq.org.
Actions taken
The Board passed motions on the following items:
- A revision to the FSA Bylaws
- The FY2027 budget
- The FY2026 audit
- The FSA Statement on Misrepresentation as an Anesthesiologist
The Statement on Misrepresentation as an Anesthesiologist responds to a recent news segment in which a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) was presented as a "doctor" and an "anesthesiologist." The statement affirms FSA's support for every member of the anesthesia care team and calls for clear, accurate professional titles so patients know whether the clinician caring for them is a physician.
A physician anesthesiologist is an MD or DO who has completed medical school and residency training in anesthesiology. A CRNA is an advanced practice registered nurse with graduate education in nurse anesthesia. As the statement puts it, the issue is not professional rivalry but transparency. Read the full statement.
FSA thanks the Board for its work on behalf of Florida anesthesiologists and their patients.
