President’s Address
Asha Padmanabhan, MD, FASA
As 2024 comes to a close, let’s reflect on our achievements. Our FSA is dedicated to serving, protecting, and advancing our profession, ensuring the highest standards in anesthesia care while promoting research, education, and innovation.
Patient Advocacy:
- For the 25th year in a row, we successfully blocked the CRNA independent practice bill through collaboration with lawmakers, policymakers, and physician groups.
- We advanced the “Ologist bill” (HB 1295/ SB 1112) to prevent title misappropriation by non-physicians, and, while it didn’t pass this year, strong support from our lawmakers brings us closer to success.
- We backed key patient safety legislation, including the Live Healthy Bill.
- FSA Board members regularly met with state and federal representatives in Tallahassee and Washington DC to advocate for your interests.
Education:
- Our 2024 Annual Meeting had record attendance, featuring sessions on AI, GLP-1’s, physician unionization, and rural anesthesia.
- Our Standing committees offer valuable resources, including webinars from the Pediatric Anesthesia and Professional Diversity Committees which you can find on our website.
- New committees on Critical Care and Obstetric Anesthesia were formed, with content planned for 2025.
Our growing membership strengthens our voice within the Florida Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Your support continues to elevate our profession in Florida. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Asha Padmanabhan, MD, FASA
