MEETING UPDATES
Letter from the 2023 Program Chair, Dr. Luis Ignacio Rodriguez
Last month, we were able to gather again in person for another successful Annual Meeting! Even though the pandemic feels like a topic of the past, being able to share the experience in person, with all the members of our Society, and at a great location is literally priceless!! This year, we had a great mix of speakers from all over Florida, and some from other states! The program included every type of anesthesia practice: private, academic, large and small groups, locums, updating the attendees on topics ranging from pediatric anesthesia (congenital cardiac anesthesia) to the elderly population (geriatric anesthesia); leadership, women in anesthesia to “living la vida locum.” We had an extensive presentation of abstracts showing the research and challenging cases completed by our members across the state. Unique to this year, we had a parallel track focused on junior faculty, residents, medical students, and anesthesia assistants! Dr Michael Champeau, the current president of the ASA gave us a summary of what is happening at the national level and what is ASA doing for its members. Finally, congratulations to “HCA Florida Westside Hospital” for winning the coveted, highly competitive Annual Jeopardy competition between anesthesia residency programs.
We could not have done this great meeting without the support of our industry sponsors and the companies that showcased their products at our exhibit hall. The program committee is already working on next year’s annual meeting and looks forward to seeing you in June 2024!
